About us
Fiordland’s original and most experienced sea kayaking company
We specialise in guided sea kayaking, from day excursions in Milford Sound, to multi-day trips in the wilderness of Doubtful Sound and other untouched southern fiords of New Zealand.
The company was founded almost twenty years ago by tourism entrepreneurs Bill Gibson and Daphne Taylor in 1992, at a time when sea kayaking in New Zealand was only just starting to gain recognition. They were instrumental in helping initiate guiding qualifications and the Code of Practice of the Sea Kayak Operators’ Association of New Zealand.
Now one of the South Island’s most acclaimed tourism operators, Real Journeys, has taken ownership of the company. Real Journeys is widely respected for its strong sense of environmental responsibility and for providing high-quality excursions enjoyed by visitors from around the globe.
But Sea Kayak Fiordland still retains much of its identity. Fiona Lee, head guide of the original company now manages the sea kayaking operations. With Fi and the team, the passion and commitment remain the same – to kayaking, the environment and adventure tourism.
We recognise that we are privileged to be operating in such a unique area and that we have a particular responsibility in the spirit of kaitiakitanga – to act as guardians to preserve the area both for its intrinsic worth and to ensure future generations can also experience its wilderness values.
Our sea kayaking tours are about bringing alive the true nature of this stunning landscape we call home. We want to enhance your understanding of adventure and wilderness, enable you to have a genuine ‘kiwi experience’ and to have fun along the way.
So explore our site, email or call us and then come and experience the real thing.
