Dusky Sound
Dusky Sound is one of the largest and most complex fiords in Fiordland, but also incredibly remote with no direct road access. It is 40km long and 8km across at its widest point and consists of amazing secluded waterways, inlets and islands. Discovered by Captain Cook back in 1773, little has changed to Dusky Sound.
This remote, untouched region has a wealth of wildlife including a breeding site for Fiordland Penguins.
A multi-day expedition combining sea kayaking and accommodation on an overnight boat offers an experience of a lifetime – ideal for those who really want to leave civilisation and have a serious exploration of the sound.
Explore Dusky and Breaksea Sounds in the heart of Fiordland National Park. Overnight accommodation is on board the Breaksea Girl (motor sailer). Previous paddling experience necessary for this 6-day multi-day experience that includes sea kayaking, cruising and a helicopter transfer.
